Not many Japanese business owners are interested in selling their companies to foreign buyers in the case of business succession.  However, there are more Japanese companies interested in inviting an alliance partner investment, or even selling the business for further growth opportunities and for globalization.  Also, many larger Japanese corporations are trying to focus their business segments and willing to carve out non-essential or lower priority business segments. When you have an interest in acquiring a business platform in Japan or in Asia, we can be of assistance.

Alternatively, if you are in the profession of selling businesses and wish to know the type of businesses our clients are seeking, we can provide you with our list of buy-side on an anonymous basis.

Furthermore, when you are preparing your pitch for a new sell-side engagement, and wish to impress your client with more international buyers in your potential buyers list, please do not hesitate to contact us for our assistance in naming potential buyers in Japan and in Asia. We do not normally charge for this service, with the understanding that we will be tasked, when you are engaged, to reach out to those Asian companies we listed. Please note that we are not experts in China, and Chinese potential buyers will not be named by us.

Whether you are interested in an acquisition in Japan or in finding an alliance partner(s) in Japan, we can search and list such target companies for you, on a research consulting basis.  Furthermore, once the targets are identified and approved by you, we can reach out to them on your behalf and facilitate the introductory meetings. 

On the other hand, if you are interested in finding an alliance partner(s) willing to invest in your businesses on your turf, we can search and list such target investors and alliance partners for you, on a success fee basis. Japanese buyers and investors tend to emphasize the synergy to its core businesses rather than the returns on its investments. 

Such investors can be better and longer term partners than typical financial investors in the Western countries.

When you have a need for Financial Advisory services in Japan or in other parts of Asia, M&A Strategy Advisors’ professionals are here to serve you. Our professionals have experience and wealth of knowledge in managing transactions, such as sales of a Japanese subsidiary by the U.S. parent company, or a carve out of a division of such a Japanese subsidiary.  We can coordinate and manage other professionals in financial due-diligence, tax due-diligence, real estate appraisals, legal due-diligence, IT due-diligence, and contractual negotiations.  Our assistance will smooth out the transaction and allow you to reach a successful deal closing.

Alternatively, if you are negotiating to sell your company to a Japanese buyer and you would like someone with knowledge and experience of dealing with Japanese companies, we can serve you or assist your U.S. Financial Advisor. The Japanese decision making process and the decision priorities are sometimes different due to the cultural and the historical background and our professionals can help facilitate the understandings.

Consulting for Post Merger Integration

When you are acquiring a company in Japan and need assistance in integrating it with your main business, we can serve you as your local PMI consultants.  We can either serve as an independent consultant or serve on the board, absorb the opinions, recommendations or even criticism from the local management and staff, and convey and resolve the issues whenever necessary.

On the other hand, if you are being acquired by a Japanese company and have a concern dealing with the nature of Japanese style management, you may want to recommend the parent company to appoint us as a PMI consultant. M&A Strategy Advisors’ professionals have a wealth of experience in such situations and we can help in smoothing out the issues.
